Pepe Verde

559 Hudson Street
11th St

Generally when you think about cheap Italian food, you wouldn't search the West Village for it - you'd try somewhere in the Bronx by Citi Field, or out in the far reaches of Brooklyn. We almost accidentally stumbled upon the greatness that is Pepe Verde.

Try the sauteed calamari with chopped tomato and olives, which will set you back $12-$15 elsewhere in the neighborhood - for $7.95. Pasta dishes run you $6.45 to $11 generally, with more meat-rich dishes like chicken Milanese and salmon in champagne sauce, for $11 to $12.

Tip: Try Pepe Verde's Lunch Special; from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., you get a Panini or penne/fusilli, with choice of soup of the day or mixed greens, all for just $8.45!
