Benny's Burritos
AKA Blockheads
113 Greenwich Ave.
(W. 12 and Jane St.)
212-633-9210
If you like Mexican food, you will have a hard time arguing with Benny's Burritos. Steps from 14th Street, it is a convenient location from virtually anywhere in Manhattan.
The prices on food aren't dirt cheap, but the portions will fill you up. I recently had the beef taco dish, which means you'll get 2 large (and I mean large) tacos, with a corn and soft shell double-wrap, as well as rice or salad, and beans. Plus they'll give you free chips and salsa, which is a nice touch. That dish will run you about $9, but it's about the most filling $9 you'll spend in the area.
During happy hour, you'll get a $3 frozen margarita ... drink 2 or more of these suckers, and you'll start to feel it, without a doubt. Non-happy hour prices are still reasonable, with most drinks, including margaritas, running $4 a pop.
Despite being a cozy, tight setting, the restaurant staff is careful to never rush anyone away from the table. However, they do love upselling, trying to get you to go for some after-dinner shots!
